Council Locals Pay it Forward this Spring
Council members have a long history of spearheading and volunteering for community centered service projects and initiatives and this Spring was no exception. Highlighting just some of the more recent efforts taken on by our locals are Rowan Local 2373’s HAVE A HEART Teen Shelter Donation Campaign and MSU Local 1904’s day of service at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside.
Running from Valentine’s Day weekend through March 31, 2015, Local 2373’s campus-wide campaign to collect items for teens in need was a resounding success. Donation boxes were distributed throughout the campus with member volunteers overseeing collection. Thanks to the diligent organizing work of the local’s Community Awareness Committee and member volunteers, on April 10th two car loads of donated goods were delivered to the Center for Family Services Teen Shelter in Camden.
Partnering with Montclair State students from Sigma Phi Rho and the Human Relations Leadership Development Association, on Saturday April 25th, dedicated MSU Local 1904 members spent their morning helping to move the work along at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) distribution center in Hillside. CFBNJ distributes food to more than 900,000 hungry people throughout New Jersey.
The Council commends the concerted efforts of Local 2373 and Local 1904 to support their communities and for standing in solidarity with those who are hungry and in need.
